Xbox Series S
As I play the new expansion on second day will notate my Warlock build experiences. Currently playing the new Lord of Hatred campaign on Hard difficulty and am level 34 to start this, this expansion changed everything so it’s new territory. The post might contain slight spoilers as I play through tough enemies. I could have this character leveled up way into the paragons as a day 1 player by now, but just playing the new campaign and it is slower. Maybe this helps you figure something’s out.
These are not META builds, just testing variations.
Builds: Skill type, Main skill + points invested, skill branches from left to right selected.
- Level 34 Build that got me past hard Hatred Octopus looking boss.
- Resources for Warlock, Wraith is pink stuff, Dominance is blue, these power skills.
- Diablo games have a resource generator (Doom) and resource spenders (Skills use both wraith or dominance), then you can find discounts and perks to minimize the cost to spam more.
- Difficulty is on Hard
- 33 points spent so far
- Basic skills, Doom 5, Damage Contagion, Echo
- Core skills, Blazing Scream 7, Damage, Skull Splitter, Brimstone Hunger
- Defensive skills, Tortured Wretch 3, Unstoppable, Death Saws, ???
- Archfiend skills, Profane Sentinel 6, Less demon vulnerable, focused glare, wide beam
- Sigil skills, none yet.
- Ultimate skills, Terror Swarm 1, ?,?,?
- Mercenaries, Rahier and Subo
- Soul Shards, Legion shard, spawn fragment
- You will need to do the Warlock class quest to unlock 4 different soul shards at level 15 I believe.
- Comments, this build was just recently changed to, it has a nuke but I can’t explain it yet lots of demon spawns that will get enemies attention. You need some gear with ‘+Life on kill’ to make this easy in early game, without it potions will run out often.
- The build will be adjusted and changed as we progress below.
Build:
- Level 34+
- Abyssal Charm of insulation dropped, +2 Abyss skills = Profane sentinel and Terror Swarm, trying it out.
- My 3 charms are now, Phoba of practiced technique (green set), speedy charm of steel (yellow), Abyssal Charm of insulation (yellow).
- Raheir leveled up to 5th talent all the left options ending with 15% more damage to enemies Raheir taunted.
- Tortured Wretch seems to be the nuke, only have 3 points in it so far it on my RB right bumper. When used a nice chunk of damage is done, will invest a few more points in it soon.
- Campaign Act VIII Lord of Hatred, The path of riddles.
- Level 35, Tortured Wretch 4., damage is 143 and taunting enemies.
- When trying to figure out main skill damage type scroll on the skill info and it’s at very bottom, two of my main skills are shadow so shadow damage multipliers or all damage multipliers are better stats on gear/weapons.
- These multipliers will give more for a specific type vs all , so shadow +7 where all would be +5 seems to be my experience. We could adjust build for our current gear, but being it is early it’s not super important until we get higher end later game gear. Good to know though and you could go +shadow for best damage.
- Level 36, Tortured Wretch 5, 196 damage.
- The ultimate Terror Swarm 1 is pretty powerful and not as annoying as the others, tried a few others earlier. Will boost it up next and expand on the branches.
- Diablo 4 dialogue is good because you hear and then can re read it on the chat panel, helps when blogging and missing things.
- With this build you walk around with a mob of companions, don’t think I mentioned this.
- Build defeated a huge boss on first attempt from a memory.
- Got second legendary, pants had necklace already.
- Tempered both legendaries, first time.
- Have no aspects unlocked, can’t do anything at Occultist.
- Still on this long series of main quest, The Soil, The Seed, The Fruit.
- Level 37, Terror Swarm 1, Pull, ?, ?
- Build is feeling much stronger, not sure of what in the build is good or bad.
- Fast level up.
- Level 38, Terror Swarm, Pull, Devouring Swam, ?
- 37 skill points spent.
- A super bomb situation with Lorath and a visit from a powerful friend in a doom and gloom moment. One of the greatest characters in the entire series.
- SpoilerMore info about this epic visitor, we need this person in Government https://youtu.be/COhzPGR1Yk8?si=dMJ2hHxiySZ01JRR
- Level 39, Terror Swarm, Pull, Devouring Swarm, Extra Bites
- Level 40, Tortured Wretch 6, 234 damage.
- Mainy just investing in main skill damage.
- We can change build once legendary gear drops with good affixes, the game can make a build path for you if you are experimenting. It really doesn’t matter at this point.
- Level 41,
- Changes in skill branches that unlock with leveling, adds more nodes.
- CHANGED, Blazing Scream, Abyssal Oppression
- This change made this an Abyssal skills which I have a charm for +2, taking advantage of.
- Blazing Scream 8
- Speaking of charms got a few more, another green set one with crafting resources, something I don’t want yet or ever?
- Ok that skill branch change was a huge buff.
- Got a yellow chest with +1 Tortured Wretch and two gem slots, added two random runes, don’t have many good ones yet.
- Shadow damage and Abyssal is our gear goals.
- My companions are killing mobs with no input from me now at this point and the life on kill heals me if take damage standing there.
- Level 42, Terror Swarm 2
- Some of my gear gives more stats to various skills, zi am listing them without contributions.
- Changed middle magic charm to 4.5% crit damage, unlocks 3 slots. Old one has 2.5% cooldown reduction.
- Not sure the charm change was good, seem to be waiting on skills more, changing back.
- Level 43, Tortured Wretch 7
- Observation am getting snared a ton during this campaign.
- Last two bosses were much easier, so the build is doing good for now.
- Starting to stack cooldown reduction on gear, picking it over most stats for now.
- This seems to be the way for this build.
- Got a second Practiced Technique charm, added it and unlocked set(2) bonus +5% attack speed +15 movement speed.
Continued:
- Level 44, Tortured Wretch 8
- 43 points spent.
- Blazing Scream skill is super powerful, spamming it is the move until resource low.
- Just got a new mount during campaign.
- Level 45, Blazing Scream 9
- I have +4 item contributions to Blazing Scream so it’s actually at 13/15, 9/15 without, might explain why so powerful right now.
- Oh yea just got to part of campaign where it is mentioned we must travel to an old Horadrim Vault with a cube inside waiting for us. This is huge and you know about it if you played Diablo 3.
- Got disconnected while on my way to cube, lol think it’s my second dc today. Not bad considering everything and I’ve been playing for hours.
- Since starting this character there have been two builds, the first had me stuck on a boss and I could not get past him. Changed to this build and it’s been getting better every few levels. Point is no need to change it much.
- Level 46, Blazing Scream 10.
- Ran into my first loot goblin, only dropped gold.
- Level 47 , Terror Swarm 3
- Level 48, Profane Sentinel 9
- lots of mobs in area I’m in so leveling faster.
- Level 49, Terror Swarm 4
- Level 50, Tortured Wretch 9
- Think we are close to the end of campaign, all the big dogs are here.
- Level 51, Blazing Scream 11
- Two more Legendaries dropped, replaced some earlier one with better yellow.
- The legendaries have had basic aspects on them, finally one with Hex on it which is used on Doom skill.
- Ok this is one bad ass scene right now.
- Stuff gets crazy in the story lots of death, we get the cube now in Temis.
- Level 52, Terror Swarm 5
- Most of the Skovos map is now shown, a few spots fog in small areas.
- Level 53, Terror Swarm 6
- Big battle going on.
- Level 54, Terror Swarm 7
- Level 55, Terror Swarm 8
- Level 56, Terror Swarm 9
- We fought the big boy, it was a good fight on Hard not too difficult with this build, the companions kept damaging while I had to run around as is usual in Diablo games during big boss fights. It has a simple mechanic that most will not have any problem with.
- He drops lots of gear, a few legendaries. He will drop more if you p,ay on higher difficulty as will everything else in Diablo games. He did drop a unique legendary ring that has nice affix.
- The cutscenes in this expansion are S-Tier I was screenshotting many.
- Got a legendary charm, unlock 5 slots, then a 3rd Practiced Technique 3 piece set bonus activated.
- Now we have War Plans, a new way to do activities. This is basically showing new players how to do some of the end game loop. I did one you select two activities and then you have option to quickly teleport to first one, then after teleport to second, finally teleport back to where you get bonus awards from NPC in Temis. Really nice makes it easier to do things for new players.
- Playing the campaign is a slower xp experience, I drank no xp potions or had any buffs, honestly since this new update not sure they are still in the game.
- I didn’t change much of the build from start except some skill branches unlock at later levels and changed one or two I think. Basically just added points to main skills for more damage, chose gear with supportive shadow damage, life on hit/kill, and abyss bonuses.
This concludes this post, campaign finished level 56, EXCELLENT CAMPAIGN!
