Chess, don’t move all those pawns too soon.

Watched a few of this guys videos and like his logic. I found this video to be very meat and potatoes for Chess movements in general without making it sound too complex. Video starts by showing why not moving pawns except center ones like C, D, E in the opening stage helps you out. Using movement logic with the value system of pieces, positioning to get better value, and then later how priorities change to make the easiest end game.

Four steps to think about (calculate) for each move aka CCTO, think of this before every move.

  1. Checks, what checks against king are available and if they are worth using.
  2. Captures, check the board for quality captures that give us a lead or bigger advantage while not giving opponents developmental opportunities.
  3. Threats, what is the opponent threatening and should we react.
  4. Optimize, get our pieces into better positions or activate them.

Using those four steps before every move can really strengthen your game and works for setting up tactics. See if there is a check which could lead to a capture and so on, but before you do the capture make sure there isn’t a huge threat, if none of the above optimize a piece. Rinse and repeat. When seeing if there is a check available don’t do silly checks with no real purpose, but if you can safely check the king early to prevent a castle then do it.

Using this guys principles I am playing as Black and win even after making quite a few blunders vs Lichess Stockfish 3. Click the : icon in middle below board for more options.
